Initial Glass Pocket Sketches

Curley Mill Studio Artist Statement

Curley Mill Studio opened in 1994, formed by artists David and Corrina Leidy, who hold Bachelor of the Fine Arts degrees from the Kansas City Art Institute, majoring in sculpture and painting, respectively.

They started with an inspired vision of unique cat furniture, known as Cat Abodes. After maturing that product over six years, they both felt the urge for change, missing the spontaneity and creativity of making “real art”.

As they searched for a medium they would both enjoy, and with guidance from David’s grandfather Lester Freed, (a Master Artist in stained glass),they decided to try glass. They quickly fell in love with this medium,
but did not enjoy working with lead came (material used to make stained glass windows). Fortunately, Lester was also experienced in the
art of kiln-fired glass.

David and Corrina found that creating art with glass in this manner lent itself to an endless array of projects and techniques. They have attended classes in kiln work at the Corning Center in New York, and continue their education through trial, error, and continued inspiration! Currently they have a large selection of wall pockets/vases which all hold water for fresh flowers and are also perfect for dried, silks, and even fish. Wall lights are their newest line, which may be plugged into an outlet or hot wired directly. You will find their work at art and craft festivals throughout the Northeast and in select art galleries.
